City, County And State Public Services

for Old Mill Lake

City of Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department - The Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department has 6 locations throughout the area with the main station located in downtown Magnolia, Texas.  The department covers approximately 300 square miles or about 20% of Montgomery County Texas.

Funding for the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department is provided thru Emergency Services District #10. Community service is provided utilizing six fire stations manned by a combination of almost 130 dedicated paid duty crew and volunteer firefighters.

The Magnolia Fire Department was one of the first fire departments in Montgomery County to be organized along the National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) guidelines. They provide public fire education to help prevent fires or serious accidents before they occur.  Did you know that if you call the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department at (281) 356-3288 and ask for a FREE smoke detector, they will not only give it to you for FREE, but they will install it for FREE! All they require is your signature on their Release of Liability form. A working smoke detector may save you and your family's life in the event of a fire!

A little trivia for you; On Dec. 15, 1952, James W. Graves, Jr. home burned to the ground, just as Cedric Smith and Wiley Williams were traveling to Humble, TX to accept the gift of a used fire truck from C. H. Daniel, a former Magnolia resident. And so, almost by coincidence, the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Dept. was formed with 12 members, including Cedric Smith and J. A. Purvis.  Murray Thomas was Magnolia's first fire chief.

The Montgomery County fire fighters are prepared to not only fight fires, but they are trained to handle water, air and confined space rescues, hazardous material incidents, and natural disasters, to name a few.  Along with fire fighting duties, the department also handles code inspections and violations and participates in community events such as parades and school carnivals.

Did you know that smoke detectors have a life span of only 10 years.  A new campaign was started in 2007 to "change your detector" "not your battery".  The Fire Marshall's office recommends buying detectors with lithium batteries.  These batteries last for 10 years and usually come sealed so the battery can not be removed.  Remember to place a smoke detector in every room where someone sleeps.
